Welcome to “In Solidarity,” a newsletter with my reflections and rants on religion and rot, misogyny and abuse.
Why subscribe?
Subscribing is free and it’s the best way to make sure you see each newsletter as it comes out. I don’t expect to write here on any regular schedule, just when I’ve got something real to say. So, if you subscribe, you’ll be sure to see it when I do. “In Solidarity” will go straight to your inbox.
What type of content can you expect?
For a couple decades, I’ve worked to shine a light on the patterns of clergy sex abuse and cover-ups in the Southern Baptist Convention. This is a continuation of that effort, but with a slight shift in my own motivations.
I no longer view myself as “speaking truth to power,” because it’s now clear that, in the arena of the SBC, those in power already know the truth and they know it all too well. The reason justice does not rain down like water is NOT because of a lack of knowledge. No. It is because of a lack of will and a lack of caring – the will to impose accountability for the cruelties and abuses of clergy colleagues and the caring to prioritize the safety of kids and congregants.
So, rather than speaking truth to power, this is a space for my efforts at speaking truth with the powerless. In solidarity.
Where can you find more of my writing?
My book — This Little Light: Beyond a Baptist Preacher Predator and his Gang. (And yes, I’m currently working on a second book, In Baptistland.)

Who am I?
This VICE profile piece by Sarah Stankorb will give you a good idea of who I am. “Using just her legal expertise, a Blogspot website, and a Twitter account, she was fighting an institution…with what was then a $1.2 billion operating budget.” That’s me.
And this from Haaretz: “When Christa Brown opened her mouth about the exploitation she endured in the church, the pastors began to fall one by one. It ended with the exposure of no less than 700 clerics involved in sexual abuse.” (translation)
