I haven't watched the second of Let Us Prey yet. I'm thinking of doing so while I'm off for Christmas. In the General Council of the Assemblies of God (AG for short) we're dealing with a massive sex abuse scandal within Chi Alpha. A sexual predator was allowed for years to associate with Texas Chi Alpha chapters (as far as I know, the only schools involved are Texas chapters) for years and it just came to light earlier this year. My alma mater, Sam Houston State University is the epicenter of the scandal. As far as I know, there are no female victims, only male.

The SBC has doing the same things all the other religious institutions are doing. And that is to make sure as much as possible that the abuses stay in house and that most of the facts never become known. The Catholic Church for centuries has been covering up abuses from their priests and they are experts at it. https://www.snapnetwork.org/clergy_abuse_victims_advocates_presser_thurs_11_30_11_15a_m_1_15pm_in_chicago

“The ‘discipline of a denomination’ is nonexistent in systems that proclaim every church is wholly autonomous.”

Yes. And Presbyterians proclaim that their system has in-built accountability because a member can take their complaint to higher courts (Presbytery, State Assembly, National Assembly). But their system often fails to protect children, women and others who wolves target. Their multi-tiered system of “church courts” is run by men using the intricate jargon of their BCO (Book of Church Order).

Different systems. But similar appalling injustice for victims of abuse and oppression.

Hi, I’ve experienced spiritual abuse at the hands of the lead pastor at my church, to the point where it became physical abuse tonight at my son’s basketball game. He laid hands on my son, and when I approached him about it, he began getting physically aggressive with me, laying hands unwanted hands on me shoving me and yelling. I’m a trained Marine and I held restraint through the whole ordeal, knowing that his immediate act of aggression and battery was an attempt to egg me on to throw a punch. Which I didn’t. But I need to talk to someone who’s been through this. Please And thank you for all you do for this community.

Hi Ryan, well done for exercising restraint by not hitting the guy. Your training has stood you in good stead!
