They just keep getting worse. It’s almost comic and would be funny, except it’s true and so very sad.

Yup. I know exactly what you mean. I would be impossible to make this stuff up, and it's almost funny, except it's all just so awful and they have so much negative influence on so many lives.

Christa, I grew up in South Mississippi Bible belt fundie world. This macho male attitude has permeated our Southern culture for generations. For many little boys, coming of age with strong male role models is a really good thing and I'm grateful for my grandads and uncles, pastors and youth pastors, business leaders and physicians -- all male -- who showed me how to be 'manly' and all the while treat women with utmost respect, dignity, and honor. Somewhere along the way, we in fundie world, and now in mainstream SBC world, have sold out to the 'truck show' and 'ultimate fighter' mentality. It's sad, it's gross, and it's toxic. If little boys want to getaway and spend $100s on a weekend dude hoorah -- fine. Just don't preach 'Christ' as the model of that behavior. That's heresy, and we all know it. I'm so grateful for my Mom, my grandma's, my aunts and girl cousins who came from within this tribe, strong, confident, courageous, and quite successful women. Today, I am led by women pastors and elders who love our family, exhort us in faith, and guide us in Christlike attitudes towards one another. You are much appreciated down here in little bitty Alabama! Blessings!!

Thanks so much, Robby Myrick! And thanks for your comment here. I bet I would've liked the women in your family... strong, confident, courageous women are a GOOD thing, as you know. And I agree 100%... all that "truck show" & "ultimate fighter" stuff being linked in with purportedly biblical manhood is just sad, gross & toxic.

Great round-up--and the extra reveal with Patterson at the end just drives it all home all the more.

The worst part about all this that happened last weekend in Springfield, Missouri is it happened not far from the headquarters of the General Council of the Assemblies of God, Assemblies of God or AG for short. John Lindell is the pastor of James River Church, formerly James River Assembly of God, an AG church in Springfield. The national and district leadership aren't doing anything regarding Lindell even though this event where a male stripper performs at a conference organized by an AG minister or at an AG church would have at the very least years ago had a minister's credentials suspended if not revoked. Lindell's credentials need to be revoked, not only for this, but having the biggest name in the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) in Bill Johnson come and speak at his church. NAR teachings clearly contradict official AG and biblical teachings.

I attend an Assemblies of God church near where I live. I have a good pastor who reminds me of my grandfather, who was an ordained AG minister (my grandmother now holds credentials, but I think she ended up getting them for tax purposes after my grandfather's death, but the Assemblies of God ordains women).
